ArcelorMittal Port-Cartier Terminal
Port-Cartier, QC · Private · ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada G.P · Gulf of St. Lawrence
The ArcelorMittal Port-Cartier terminal is a deep-water seaport on Quebec's North Shore (Côte-Nord), on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, owned and operated by ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada G.P. (AMIC). It primarily exports iron ore concentrate and pellets railed roughly 400 km from the Mont-Wright mining complex at Fermont, and also handles raw materials, fuel and grain, moving more than 26 million tonnes to international markets annually. Operating 365 days a year, the port receives more than 450 ships per year (over 900 entry/exit maneuvers) and, together with the adjacent pellet plant and railway operations, employs more than 600 specialized workers. Carved out of the bedrock and inaugurated about 60 years ago (1961), it is recognized as the largest privately owned port in Canada and is not part of a Canada Port Authority.
