Bamfield West
Bamfield, BC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Bamfield Inlet / Barkley Sound (Pacific Ocean), west coast of Vancouver Island
Bamfield West is a remote public port facility (government dock) owned by Transport Canada on the west (Cape Beale peninsula) side of Bamfield Inlet in Barkley Sound, on the roadless side of the village of Bamfield, BC. It is one of nine remote BC port facilities Transport Canada operates in communities where marine transportation is the primary mode of travel; the dock provides moorage and a landing for small craft serving residents, fishing vessels and visitors who rely on the water for daily access (mail, supplies, work and travel). The West dock was rebuilt/upgraded around 2014 with new anchors, lighting, a water system and safety equipment to accommodate small craft, and connects the west side of the community to the passenger/freight ferry M/V Frances Barkley service and the broader Barkley Sound area near Pacific Rim National Park. It handles small recreational and commercial fishing vessels and general community/passenger traffic rather than commercial bulk cargo.
