Canaport Crude Oil Terminal

Saint John, NB · Private · Irving Oil Ltd · Bay of Fundy

Canaport is a privately owned deep-water marine crude oil receiving terminal on the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at Mispec Point, about 9 km southeast of Saint John, owned and operated by Irving Oil since it was commissioned in 1970 (the first deep-water crude terminal in the Western Hemisphere able to receive supertankers). Crude is offloaded at a floating single-point mooring (SPM) located roughly 1.2 km offshore, where tankers swing freely 360 degrees with the tide, and is then carried to shore via an undersea pipeline. The terminal has over six million barrels of storage and is configured exclusively as a crude receiving terminal that feeds the adjacent Irving Oil Refinery in Saint John by pipeline. It operates 24/7, 365 days a year and sits outside the federally regulated Port of Saint John (Saint John Port Authority).
