Charlottetown (Labrador)

Charlottetown, NL · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · St. Michael's Bay (Labrador Sea / Atlantic)

Charlottetown is a small local/regional port facility on St. Michael's Bay on the southeast Labrador coast, in a community of roughly 290-350 residents whose economy is built around the shrimp and groundfish fishery. The harbour serves the local fishing fleet and a North Atlantic shrimp processing plant on the waterfront (1 Marine Drive), and historically functioned as a coastal supply hub and a "bridgehead" for road-isolated outport communities such as Norman's Bay and Pinsent's Arm. The wharf/marine facility is listed by Transport Canada as a local/regional port in its Newfoundland and Labrador inventory, administered from the department's Atlantic Region office in Moncton, NB. A seasonal provincial marine/air service connects Charlottetown to nearby communities with no highway access.
