FortisBC Tilbury LNG Facility

Delta, BC · Private · FortisBC Energy Inc · Fraser River (Tilbury Island)

The FortisBC Tilbury LNG Facility on Tilbury Island in Delta, BC has operated since 1971, liquefying and storing natural gas (a 46,000 cubic metre storage tank was added under Phase 1A, commissioned 2018) and now produces LNG for transportation, shipping and overseas export. FortisBC owns and operates the plant, which sits beside its transmission pipeline system a few kilometres from Vancouver on the Fraser River. A proposed Tilbury Marine Jetty on the Fraser would provide berthing and loading for LNG carriers and bunker vessels (up to 100,000 cbm capacity) for ship-to-ship marine bunkering and export; it received provincial and federal environmental approvals in 2024 and is developed by the Tilbury Jetty Limited Partnership, co-owned by FortisBC and Seaspan. Expansion phases (Phase 1B and Phase 2) would more than double production toward roughly 3.4 mtpa total.
