Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill Marine Terminal

Nanaimo, BC · Private · Nanaimo Forest Products Ltd · Northumberland Channel / Strait of Georgia (east coast of Vancouver Island, near Duke Point)

Harmac Pacific is a private deep-sea pulp-mill marine terminal owned and operated by Nanaimo Forest Products Ltd. on the east coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo (Duke Point area), on Northumberland Channel off the Strait of Georgia. The mill produces roughly 380,000 tonnes per year of Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) pulp from Douglas fir, hemlock/balsam and western red cedar chips, and uses its own dock on a deep-sea port to load pulp for export, which the company says gives it a significant cost advantage serving overseas customers. NBSK pulp is shipped worldwide, with major markets in Asia, the USA and Europe (sales offices in the USA, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, Switzerland and Sweden). The site also runs a green-power cogeneration operation supplying carbon-neutral electricity to BC Hydro, and Nanaimo Forest Products jointly owns the adjacent Orca Pacific Terminal wholesale propane facility.
