Imperial Oil Sarnia (Chemical Valley) docks

Sarnia, ON · Private · Imperial Oil Ltd · St. Clair River

Imperial Oil's Sarnia site is described as the most integrated fuels, chemicals manufacturing and petroleum research facility in Canada, processing roughly 113,000 barrels of crude oil per day (2025) and employing about 700 people on a site that has operated in Sarnia for over 125 years. The refinery and chemical plant produce gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel, home heating fuel, marine fuel, and petrochemicals such as polyethylene, solvents, higher olefins and aromatics. Private marine docks on the St. Clair River serve the site: refined products and chemicals (e.g., benzene) are loaded to barges and vessels, and the docks support marine fuel bunkering. Imperial's marine fuel sales at Sarnia were taken over in 2014 by its strategic partner Sterling Fuels, which delivers MDO/MGO/IFO marine fuels by pipeline at the Imperial Oil dock.
