North Sydney

North Sydney, NS · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Sydney Harbour / Cabot Strait (Atlantic Ocean)

North Sydney is a Transport Canada-owned public port on Sydney Harbour at the edge of the Cabot Strait in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Its principal function is the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal, the mainland gateway for year-round passenger and roll-on/roll-off vehicle (cars, RVs, and commercial trucks) ferry service to Newfoundland and Labrador, sailing the Port aux Basques (year-round) and Argentia (seasonal) routes across the Cabot Strait. The LEED Silver-certified terminal at 149 Prince Street is operated by Marine Atlantic Inc., a federal Crown corporation, and is served by a fleet including the Ala'suinu, Blue Puttees, Highlanders, and Leif Ericson. The port itself is administered under Transport Canada's Ports Program (Atlantic Region), which lists it among public ports serving communities with commercial marine activity.
