Pelee Island (West Dock)

Pelee Island, ON · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Lake Erie (western basin)

Pelee Island's West Dock is the principal harbour and ferry/commercial landing on Pelee Island, located in the warm western basin of Lake Erie roughly midway between Leamington/Kingsville, Ontario and the U.S. shore. It functions primarily as the island terminal for the seasonal passenger, vehicle and cargo ferry service operated by the Owen Sound Transportation Company (an operational enterprise agency of the Province of Ontario), using the MV Pelee Islander and MV Pelee Islander II, which connect the island to the Ontario mainland and to Sandusky, Ohio. Beyond the ferry, the dock supports shipping and receiving for the island community; it is a local/regional public-port facility within the Transport Canada Ports Program and offers no transient pleasure-craft facilities. Daily ferry sailings typically run April through early December, with winter air service replacing the ferry when ice conditions halt sailings.
