Port-Menier (Anticosti Island)

Port-Menier (L'Île-d'Anticosti), QC · Provincial · Société des traversiers du Québec · Gulf of St. Lawrence (Anticosti Island, Côte-Nord)

Port-Menier is the sole maritime port of Anticosti Island, located on the Gulf of St. Lawrence in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec, and is owned and operated by the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ), the provincial ferry Crown corporation. The facility has two wharves (Wharf #1 at 211 m x 22 m and Wharf #2 at 242 m x 12.8 m; tidal range 1.7-2.6 m) and handles general freight, essential supplies, and equipment tied to the island's industrial, forestry, fishing, and tourism activities. From April to mid-January, Relais Nordik (a Groupe Desgagnés company) calls at the port roughly twice weekly with its combined passenger/cargo vessel Bella Desgagnés, resupplying the community as part of its service linking Rimouski, Sept-Îles, Port-Menier, Havre-Saint-Pierre, and the Lower North Shore. The port supports the island's roughly 200 permanent residents (population doubling in summer) and is the lifeline for resupply and seasonal passenger traffic.
