Port of Georgetown (Georgetown Marine Terminal)

Georgetown, PE · Private · Georgetown Port Inc · Cardigan Bay (Northumberland Strait), at the mouth of the Brudenell and Montague Rivers

The Port of Georgetown is a deep-water marine terminal on Cardigan Point in Cardigan Bay (a sub-basin of the Northumberland Strait) at the mouth of the Brudenell and Montague Rivers, one of the best natural ice-free deep-water harbours on PEI's east coast (approach channel depth ~10.97 m; berths to 8.0 m; 800 m turning basin; ice-free roughly April 15-December 31). It is maintained and operated by Georgetown Port Inc., a community port corporation governed by a volunteer board, which provides wharfinger, fresh water, shore power and anchorage services across roughly 429 m of commercial berthage, a ~153 m x 41 m pier, and a 50 m x 12 m heated transit shed. The harbour also hosts the island's only shipyard, the East Isle Shipyard (owned by J.D. Irving Limited), which builds tugboats and Royal Canadian Navy Glen-class tugs, plus a seafood processing operation, making shipbuilding, commercial cargo, and fishing the principal marine activities. Pilotage is available but not compulsory.
