Port of Paspebiac

Paspebiac, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Chaleur Bay (Baie des Chaleurs), Gulf of St. Lawrence

Paspebiac is a Transport Canada public port on the north shore of Chaleur Bay in the Gaspe region of Quebec, roughly 195 km southwest of Gaspe. The harbour consists of two parallel wharves -- the interior wharf owned by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the exterior (federal) deep-water wharf owned by Transport Canada -- together with a marina and a breakwater that shelters the site, including the Unipeche MDM seafood processing plant and the Banc-de-Peche-de-Paspebiac National Historic Site. It is the only year-round, deep-water wharf in the sector and historically served commercial fishing and landings (chiefly summer activity). As of the mid-2020s the infrastructure is in crisis: the breakwater has been judged at the end of its useful life since a 2016 federal report, and the Transport Canada wharf was closed to vehicles and navigation in 2022 and to pedestrians in 2025 over safety concerns, suspending commercial use while Transport Canada studies options including a possible property transfer.
