Port of Saint-François (Île d'Orléans)
Saint-François-de-l'Île-d'Orléans, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · St. Lawrence River (Fleuve Saint-Laurent)
Saint-François is a small public wharf on the south/east shore of Île d'Orléans, on the St. Lawrence River roughly 10 km downstream of Quebec City. It is an old federal (Transport Canada) wharf, listed under Transport Canada's Ports Asset Transfer Program (PATP) as available for transfer; boating-community sources report it has been (or is being) transferred to the local municipality of Saint-François-de-l'Île-d'Orléans. The structure is a fixed L-shaped wharf with corrugated-steel sides, built in the 1950s-60s in connection with the shipping channel and once used by Coast Guard helicopters and hovercraft. Today it has no commercial cargo traffic; it serves as a recreational stop for sailboats and small craft (mooring space for roughly two boats on the protected side) between the Quebec City marina and Cap-à-l'Aigle, with a strong tidal range requiring care. The municipal office can be reached at 3491 chemin Royal, G0A 3S0, +1 418-829-3100.
