Port of Summerside
Summerside, PE · Private · Summerside Port Corporation Inc · Summerside Harbour / Bedeque Bay, Northumberland Strait
The Port of Summerside is a commercial marine cargo port on Summerside Harbour (Bedeque Bay, off the Northumberland Strait) on Prince Edward Island, operated by Summerside Port Corporation Inc., a local entity to which Transport Canada divested the port in 2010. It comprises several wharves/docking stations including the Marine Terminal, Holman's Wharf and Queen's Wharf, plus a marine slip for commercial fishing, served by an 80 m wide, 6.7 m deep approach channel and an approximately 963 m breakwater. The port mainly handles bulk fertilizer (including DAP), root crops, aggregate (gravel, limestone and sand) and lobster/fish, distributing fertilizer to farmers across P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine and aggregate to regional construction firms. Its Marine Terminal offers about 4,970 m2 of heated transit-shed storage, and it accommodates vessels up to roughly 225 m.
