Public Port of Chandler

Chandler, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Chaleur Bay / Gulf of St. Lawrence (mouth of the Grand Pabos River)

The Public Port of Chandler is a federal public port owned by Transport Canada and administered by its Quebec Region, located on the south coast of the Gaspe Peninsula at the entrance to Chaleur Bay (Gulf of St. Lawrence), roughly 715 km east of Quebec City and 130 km southwest of Gaspe. The town grew up around the St. Lawrence Pulp and Lumber Corporation mill (founded 1912), and the deep-water wharf historically served pulp-and-paper shipping; the mill closed in 1999. Today the port serves regional commercial and marine activity and is a seasonal port of call for the CTMA Vacancier passenger/cruise ferry running between Montreal and the Iles de la Madeleine. The port is listed under Transport Canada's Ports Asset Transfer Program (PATP), which seeks to transfer such facilities to local or regional operators.
