Public Port of La Romaine (Unamen Shipu)

La Romaine, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Gulf of St. Lawrence (Lower North Shore)

The Public Port of La Romaine is a remote federal wharf owned by Transport Canada that serves the Innu community of Unamen Shipu (La Romaine) and the village of La Romaine on Quebec's Lower North Shore, an isolated area without road access roughly 1,000 km east of Quebec City. The wharf is the community's primary maritime supply point and handles general cargo and passenger resupply via the cargo-passenger vessel NM Bella Desgagnés, operated by Relais Nordik on its weekly Rimouski-Blanc-Sablon route (one of about 21 stops). The facility operates seasonally from April to mid-January, with calls suspended in winter when ice coverage prevents navigation; Transport Canada carried out emergency wharf repairs in 2017-2018 after winter storm damage.
