Public Port of Saint-Augustin (Pointe-à-la-Truite)
Saint-Augustin, QC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Saint-Augustin River (at its mouth on the Gulf of St. Lawrence / Lower North Shore)
A federal remote public port owned by Transport Canada, the wharf at Pointe-à-la-Truite (Trout Point) sits at the mouth of the Saint-Augustin River on Quebec's isolated Lower North Shore (Basse-Côte-Nord), a region where marine transport is the primary mode of access. It is the easternmost-area cargo resupply call for Relais Nordik's NM Bella-Desgagnés, which cannot navigate up the Saint-Augustin River and therefore delivers all freight for the village of Saint-Augustin to this wharf. The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) operates a passenger-and-cargo crossing on the river with the NM Rivière-Saint-Augustin, ferrying goods (and people) between the Pointe-à-la-Truite wharf and the village; the cargo service runs roughly April to February and is offered free of charge. The wharf is also used by local fishermen to unload their catches.
