Quatsino Public Port (Bergh Cove Public Wharf)
Quatsino, BC · Transport Canada · Transport Canada · Quatsino Sound
Quatsino is a remote public port owned by Transport Canada under its federal Ports Program, listed among the "remote port facilities" in British Columbia that serve communities where marine transportation is the primary mode of access. The facility (the government wharf / Bergh Cove Public Wharf) is the only public transportation link in and out of the water-access-only hamlet of Quatsino on Quatsino Sound, on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, with the current wharf layout dating to the 1950s. It handles no commercial cargo; it supports community passenger access, small private vessels, mail-boat and water-taxi service (run from nearby Coal Harbour), and the local fishing/recreation economy. Although Transport Canada retains ownership, day-to-day operation and management of the Bergh Cove Public Wharf is carried out by the Regional District of Mount Waddington on behalf of Quatsino residents on a user-pay basis under Bergh Cove Regulatory Bylaw No. 982.
