South Baymouth is the Manitoulin Island terminal of the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry, which crosses Lake Huron to Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula on a seasonal basis (roughly mid-May to mid-October). The federal harbour facility is owned by Transport Canada (it appears on the TC Ports Asset Transfer Program list of ports available for transfer), while the ferry service and terminal are operated by the Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC), a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario. The MS Chi-Cheemaun (Ojibwe for "Big Canoe") is a 111 m passenger/vehicle ferry carrying up to roughly 638 passengers and 143 vehicles per crossing, with the trip taking about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours; advance reservations and seasonal parking fees apply. The terminal handles passengers and vehicles only (no commercial bulk cargo), serving as a key tourism and transportation link between Northern Ontario and southern Ontario.
