Sydney Marine Terminal

Sydney, NS · Private · Port of Sydney Development Corporation · Sydney Harbour (south arm), Cabot Strait, Cape Breton Island

The Sydney Marine Terminal is the ocean gateway to Cape Breton Island, located on the east side of the south arm of Sydney Harbour, a 16 km Y-shaped inlet off the Cabot Strait that is open year-round. The terminal handles cruise ships, project cargo, break bulk, bulk and fuel. Its main Terminal Dock is 275 m long with 12 m of water depth and can berth vessels up to 360 m; a 200 m North Dock offers similar capacity, and a South Dock accommodates yachts and super-yachts up to 100 ft (including the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club Marina). The terminal is managed and operated by the Port of Sydney Development Corporation, a not-for-profit corporation established for civic improvement and economic development of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality; the broader harbour also hosts the privately owned International Coal Pier, Nova Scotia Lands, the Sydport Industrial Park (Edwardsville/Point Edward, site of the proposed Novaporte deepwater container/logistics hub) and the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal at North Sydney.
