Tuktoyaktuk Marine Terminal (MTS)
Tuktoyaktuk, NT · Territorial · Government of the Northwest Territories - Department of Infrastructure · Beaufort Sea / Arctic coast (Mackenzie River delta system)
The Tuktoyaktuk Marine Terminal is one of two freight-handling terminals (the other in Inuvik) operated by Marine Transportation Services (MTS) in the Beaufort Delta region. MTS, a division of the Government of the Northwest Territories' Department of Infrastructure (which acquired the assets in 2016), uses a fleet of eight shallow-draft tugboats and barges to transport deck cargo and bulk petroleum products to communities along the Mackenzie River and the Western Arctic coast, including Aklavik, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk. The Tuktoyaktuk site serves as the Arctic coastal staging point of the Mackenzie marine system, supporting fuel delivery operations (including planned strategic fuel-reserve tank-farm storage) and seasonal community resupply across the NWT and Nunavut's Kitikmeot region.
