Westshore Terminals (Roberts Bank)

Delta, BC · Private · Westshore Terminals Limited Partnership · Roberts Bank (Strait of Georgia / Pacific Ocean)

Westshore Terminals is a privately owned bulk coal export terminal at the Roberts Bank Superport in Delta, BC, about 30 km south of Vancouver, accessed via a causeway into the Strait of Georgia. Built in 1970, it is Canada's busiest coal export terminal and one of the largest single coal-export facilities in North America, handling both metallurgical (coking) and thermal/steam coal (roughly 33+ million tonnes annually, with a rated capacity near 36 mtpa). Coal arrives by rail (Canadian Pacific, CN, BNSF) from mines including Teck Coal operations in BC/Alberta and US sources, and is shipped primarily to Asian markets. Although it sits on Roberts Bank within Vancouver Fraser Port Authority jurisdiction, the terminal is privately owned and operated as a commercial bulk facility by Westshore Terminals LP, which is controlled by the Jim Pattison Group.
